Stealing From Your Captain is Frowned Upon
AN ORANGE COUNTY (Calif.) FIRE AUTHORITY firefighter has been arrested on charges that he stole cash from his captain's wallet that was stored in a closet in the officer's bunk room. Surveillance video taken from a hidden camera placed by the Irvine Police Department showed the firefighter dipping into the captain's wallet and on one occasion even removing it from the room and then returning it.

Irvine Police detectives conducted surveillance in the case after the captain reported an "ongoing issue" of someone taking small denominations from his wallet over a period of one to one-and-a-half years. The incidents occurred when his wallet was in the closet of his non-shared bedroom at the station while he exercised, the captain said.
The suspect is Gregory Mark Konishi, 49, a Rancho Santa Margarita resident who has worked at Orange County Fire Authority for 25 years.
The District Attorney's office has received the case from Irvine Police but has not yet made a decision on whether to prosecute, spokeswoman Farrah Emami said Monday. She declined to comment further, citing department policy on cases without charges.
The arrest warrant was requested and issued Nov. 6 at Harbor Justice Center. Konishi was arrested Nov. 8 on suspicion of burglary. The bail amount stated in the records is $25,000, and Konishi is not listed as being in custody in the county jail's online database.
He remains on paid administrative leave pending the legal process as well as an internal investigation, Fire Authority spokesman Kris Concepcion said Monday. The internal investigation will take into account police and district Attorney's findings and decisions.
Captain Mark Ledford was provided with marked/recorded bills that were used to further implicate Konishi.
