A Marriage Made in Heaven — Not!

A SANTA ROSA COUNTY, FLORIDA, WOMAN WAS ARRESTED ten days ago and charged with arson, a 2nd-degree felony, and first-degree battery.  Shannon Wriska, 34, was accused by her husband Robert of setting his boat, his go-kart, and a jacuzzi on fire shortly before she started punching him out.

Shannon Wriska means business.

Briefly, the timeline of events goes something like this:

  • The night before, the couple was watching a movie together that starred the actress Jennifer Lopez.  Shannon got jealous and agitated from Robert’s watching the sultry actress and they argued about it for a while before they went to bed.
  • After getting in bed, according to the police officer that filed the report, Shannon scooted way over onto Robert’s side of the bed and he told her to move back over.  She then became angry and asked, “So you’re saying I’ve got a fat ass?”  Then she got up and left the residence.
  • The next day, Robert said he was at another residence drinking alcohol and his wife pulled up in her vehicle and saw him drinking and became agitated. Robert stated that Shannon then walked outside of their trailer and started pulling hoses off of the motor of his go-kart.   Then Robert told deputies that she lit the go-kart on fire, and he ran outside and attempted to extinguish the fire with water from a hose.
  • She then grabbed Robert by the neck and started pummeling and scratching him, leading him to run over to his neghbor’s house for refuge.
  • Shannon then poured gasoline into the boat and set it on fire, then went to the couple’s jacuzzi and poured more gasoline into it before attempting unsuccessfully to torch it.
  • Shannon then fled after putting the family dogs in her car and telling Robert that she was going to “put them to sleep.”

It was not reported which Jennifer Lopez movie they were watching that triggered the marathon altercation.  Shannon was released from jail on $4,000 bond.  No mention of where Robert is.

“Big Ben” Bar Burns

THE LOVELY CITY OF SAN REMO, ITALY, has one less jewel today.  At 6:30 am Friday a passing garbage collection truck saw smoke and fire in the historic downtown bar “Big Ben” owned by Andrea Di Baldassarre.  When the Vigili del Fuoco arrived on the scene, fire was showing on the facade of the first three floors of the building and spreading into it as evidenced in this brief video taken as the companies were still stretching hose:

On arrival, the firefighters immediately evacuated the building and those on each side of it.  This is being credited with the result of no injuries being reported from the fire.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the fire began outside on the front terrace, then spread into the public dining room before traveling into the upper floors.  Considerable property damage was done by the fire.

Big Ben is located on one of the most famous squares in San Remo where a major festival was scheduled for tonight.

Investigators are saying that the fire was probably set intentionally.  The owner says that he believes it was set as a means to “frighten” him, but he will not be driven away and will reopen the famous bar.

This brief video clip was taken before the arrival of the FD and shows a family escaping from the building next door:

House Fire Leaves 20 Homeless

A MORRISTOWN, NEW JERSEY, HOME THAT HAD been converted into apartment units broke out in fire Sunday morning around 4:30 am.  The fast-growing fire in the 3-story plus basement wood-frame building trapped most of the 20 occupants inside, many of whom didn’t realize the magnitude of the danger and were reluctant to leave.

When the first units arrived fire was showing and the immediate rescue problem was apparent.  The firefighters and two police officers had to literally go through the building and forcibly remove the endangered occupants.

(Morristown Daily Record)

The Morristown Daily Record reports:

After the residents were down and out, firefighters made a push up to the interior to attack the fire, according to Captain Prachthauser.

”It was an absolute team effort,” he said, “with everybody involved in the fire scene. Everybody did their job. I couldn’t be prouder of all the guys I worked with that night. They all did a great job.”

Fire Capt. Robert Whitehead said that battling the blaze was so brutal that firefighters each went through an average of three “air bottles” that generally last for a half-hour apiece, or 20 minutes when a firefighter is breathing heavily.

Ultimately, firefighters on the scene were assisted by additional Morristown Fire Department volunteers who arrived after a general alarm was sounded.

One firefighter was injured when a ceiling collapsed onto him, knocking his face mask and helmet off.  He was transported and treated for cuts and smoke inhalation, then released.

Investigation soon disclosed that the fire was deliberately set.  In addition, the city’s code enforcement unit and the state agency that regulates rental housing had both been there recently.  The city has pledged to open an investigation to see why the building was overcrowded as it was.  Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty addressed the press about this situation Sunday afternoon:

Arsonist Pleads Guilty

WHEN STEVEN ROGERS, 35, APPEARED IN COURT THURSDAY, everybody was expecting his trial to begin on the charge of arson placed against him.  He had been arrested and charged with setting a major fire in downtown Morrilton, Arkansas, this past September 16.  (Firegeezer posted the story with some impressive videos HERE.)  But as the trial was about to begin he informed the court that he had changed his mind and wanted to enter a guilty plea.

The fire was set in a 4-story building that housed a furniture store and the large blaze destroyed three other buildings and damaged several more.  The fire came very close to spreading into the entire block.

After accepting his plea, the judge then sentenced Rogers to 30 years in prison and a judgement for restitution of $886,978.  Rogers must serve at least a quarter of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.

Arrests in Cicero Fire Deaths

Comments Off

THREE WEEKS AGO TODAY ON FEBRUARY 14, Firegeezer reported HERE on a deadly fire in Cicero, Illinois, on Valentine’s Day.  The fire broke out in a house that had been illegally converted to separate living units and the fire spread to the next building over that had been altered similarly.  Altogether nearly 30 people were crammed into the tenements and when the fire was extinguished there were seven dead inside the house.  Roughly 20 people escaped, but the exact number isn’t known.

cicero-a1

See Larry Shapiro’s 180-image photo gallery of this fire HERE.

This past Wednesday March 3, two men were arrested and charged for arson and murder in the case.  One of them was the owner of the buildings Lawrence Myers, 60, and a maintenance man, Marion Comier, 47.  According to the prosecutors, Myers hired Comier to set the fire in exchange for $3,000 to $15,000.  The prosecution says that Myers was in financial difficulty, behind in mortgage payments and facing foreclosure on two other properties that he owns in other towns.  His motive was to collect $250,000 in insurance that he held on the Cicero house.  The Chicago Tribune reported:

“It was done at the wrong time,” Lawrence Myers said in a secretly taped conversation with the maintenance man, Marion Comier, according to prosecutors. “I didn’t want any of this to happen.”  Myers had instructed Comier to burn down the apartment building during the day “when the children were at school and the women were at work,” according to one of the recordings, prosecutors said.

The two are also heard on the wiretaps talking about how much Comier would be paid, anywhere from $3,000 to $15,000, Cook County Asst. State’s Attorney Mary Lacy said in court.

And they discussed how Comier used a mixture of gasoline and oil to start the fire in an attempt to disguise the smell. “I dumped it on there, threw in a match and that was it,” Lacy said, quoting Comier’s statement.  The fire started in the rear of the first floor of the building, which was empty, Lacy said. But it raced up a back stairs, cutting off the only escape for people on the second floor.

During one taped conversation, Myers repeatedly discussed plans to take the insurance money and flee to West Virginia, where he would live without a mailbox or telephone so he would be difficult to find.

In the days after the fire, three witnesses came forward and told Cicero police they had heard Myers and Comier discussing burning down the building, prosecutors said. One of the witnesses said Comier admited setting the fire.

Witnesses also described hearing Myers repeatedly calling Comier before the fire and asking him to do it, prosecutors said.  A witness agreed to wear a wire and, on five separate days, recorded the two making statements implicating themselves, prosecutors said.

Both men were arrested Wednesday evening at 6 pm and are charged with seven counts of 1st-degree murder and two counts of aggravated arson.  Read the full story in the Chicago Tribune HERE.

The men were arraigned Friday afternoon and WFLD-TV Ch. 32 filed this video report:

FLAMING HEARSE LEADS TO ARREST.  In Vallejo, California Friday afternoon, a man driving a hearse with an occupied casket inside was involved in a non-injury hit-and-run accident.  Instead of stopping at the wreck he caused, he continued on with his trip to deliver the coffin to a funeral service, driving with a flat front tire that was shooting sparks into the undercarriage of the hearse.

The California Highway Patrol got the call at 2:20 pm and when they caught up with the reluctant chauffer, the hearse was fully involved with fire.  The man had pulled over in time to pull the casket out of the vehicle and drag it away from the burning hearse.

The police arrested him for DUI.

JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER GOES TO SENIOR JAIL for arson conviction.  Andrew Kildea, 17, of Saddle Brook, New Jersey was vacationing with his family in upstate New York  in early July when he sneaked onto a neighbor’s porch early one morning and started a fire.

Kildea pleaded guilty to arson in the fourth degree on Jan. 6 and would serve a six-month sentence at Warren County, New York, jail. After completing his sentence, Kildea will receive five years probation, which could be transferred to New Jersey.

New Jersey.com reports:

Kildea, who was a junior firefighter for Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 in Saddle Brook, was dismissed from the fire department in early July after the filing of the criminal complaint.

Despite Kildea’s age, Hogan indicated the arson conviction could not be expunged from his record.  “Arson is a red flag,” Hogan said. “There’s no youthful adjudication. That’s a felony conviction on his record.”

Kildea also received a no-contact order with the victim’s family and was required to submit his DNA for a governmental database.

Warren County Sheriff’s officials indicated Kildea set the blaze “with papers” on a porch built around a mobile camper. The fire travelled up the exterior wall of the camper, creating flames and heavy smoke, authorities said. Smoke detectors alerted the occupants of the trailer who were able to get out and extinguish the fire.

Northampton Arson Arrest

Updated:  Videos of arraignment and press conference added.  Scroll down.

A 25-YR.-OLD MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND CHARGED with one count of arson and two murder charges.  The arrest comes after a dedicated arson task force set up after a series of arson in Northampton, Massachusetts, in the early-morning hours of Sunday, December 27.  The stream of 18 fires, 11 of them in a span of 73 minutes, left two innocent people dead, a man and his son.  See the Firegeezer video report HERE.

WCVB-TV Ch. 5 has this video report from this morning:

The Boston Globe is reporting:

Authorities arrested Anthony P. Baye, 25, last night [Monday...ed.] at the Northampton Police Department, according to a statement issued by Northwestern District Attorney Elizabeth D. Scheibel.

Baye is scheduled to be arraigned today in Northampton District Court on charges that also included armed burglary.

The statement from the district attorney did not say what led investigators to Baye or outline the evidence against him. It said that the charges stem from recent fires in Northampton, including a Dec. 27 blaze at 17 Fair St., where Paul Yeskie and his son, Paul Jr., were found dead.

Baye was arrested at 8 pm last night at the police station and is being held without bail.  He is scheduled for an arraignment in Northampton District Court.  There is also a planned press conference for today on the developments.  Firegeezer will update this story later today if any new facts warrant it.

Update, 5 pm Eastern:

Baye was arraigned in court this morning where he pleaded not guilty.  At the request of the district attorney, the judge ordered Baye to be held without  bail until his next hearing in March.

This raw video from WCVB-TV shows the entire procedure.  For the first time we learn that Baye was detained and then held by the police very shortly after the arsons in the same area.  After being inteviewed by detectives, it was determined that he was not being truthful and then later he admitted to setting the fire that killed the two men.  Watch the entire video:

Shortly after the hearing, the District Attorney held this news conference where she reviewed the events of the case.  This video is provided by WWLP-TV Ch. 25 Springfield:

Blazing Triple-Decker Brings Evacuations

A LARGE TRIPLE-DECKER IN WOONSOCKET, RHODE ISLAND, put on a light show Friday night and led to some precautionary evacuations.

woon a WPRI

WPRI-TV

The house had been vacant for almost a year and was especially large even for that style of tenement.  Built on the side of a hill, the blazing house could be seen across the entire town.  When the FD arrived on the scene, fire was starting through the roof and outside operations were called for.  Because of the proximity of neighboring homes and the immensity of the fire, several nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution from fire extension.

The response was upgraded to four alarms bringing in departments from around the area.  They were successful in containing the fire to the original building.

The fire, which was discovered around 7:15 pm, apparently started on the second floor and was immediately classed as suspicious.  By the time the fire was out, the roof and third floor had collapsed.

WPRI-TV cameras were on the scene and filed this video report:

Vancouver Mystery Mansion Murder/Arson

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, FIREFIGHTERS WERE CALLED OUT Monday night to a fire in a “heritage home” mansion that was built 98 years ago in a wealthy neighborhood.  The fire was seated in the basement, but was spreading through the large home and the response was escalated eventually to three alarms.  Vancouver FD officials say that it is “rare” for a house fire to extend to 3 alarms.

The Province

The fire officers on the scene were immediately suspicious of the blaze because there were more than one fires ongoing in the house.  After the fire was extinguished, the FF’s began overhauling in the basement and came across a charred body of what appeared to be an adult male.  It won’t be known how the man died until the autopsy is completed later this week, so it is also unknown if he was a murder victim or the fire setter who became a victim of circumstance.

But the mystery only deepened when the investigators started delving into the ownership records that led them to discover:

  • The owner is a woman, Gail Hewitt who bought the house in 2007 for $1.56 million, but did not live in it.
  • It was heavily mortgaged and the 3rd mortgage  is held by a local character named Robert Luigi Poloni.
  • Hewitt was in default on the mortgage owing nearly $615,000 with interest debt accumulating at the rate of $245 a day.
  • Poloni intiated foreclosure proceedings in November of 2008.
  • The final order of foreclosure was granted on October 2 of this year.
  • On October 3 Poloni listed the house for sale for $2.5 million.
  • Poloni and an associate, Robert Della Penna, a former boxer, were both charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence relating to a 2004 undercover cocaine-trafficking investigation, but the charges were later stayed.
  • During the foreclosure hearings, Hewitt told the court that had threatened her and also threatened to burn the house down.
  • Hewitt has recently lost two other properties in Vancouver to foreclosure.
  • Poloni’s lawyer, Andrew Bury says that Poloni is “vacationing in Thailand for weeks and recovering from surgery.”

Nobody yet has any idea who the body in the basement is.

A MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOLLOWING A FIRE late Tuesday night at a private museum in Wales.  The fire at the Cae Dai 50′s Museum was transmitted shortly after 11 pm Tuesday night and on arrival the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service found the museum building well-involved.

The museum contained a large collection of 1950′s artifacts including an entire village shop, a recreation of a home kitchen and a large collection of automobiles from the period.  BBC News reports this morning:

Firefighters from Denbigh, St Asaph, Rhyl and Ruthin worked through the night to put out the fire, which they finished damping down just before 0530 BST.

County safety officer Alun Edwards said that when crews arrived to tackle the blaze they did not realise that the vehicles inside the building were of such high quality.  “The main problem we had was that the building was in danger of collapse,” he said.

An FD spokesman said that it is believed that all of the autos were destroyed.  One of the more interesting vehicles in the collection is the truck that was used to carry off the money at the major heist in 1963 known as the Great Train Robbery.

Earlier today a 46-yr.-old man was arrested in connection with the suspicious fire.  So far, no further information has been released about the arrest.

Juvenile Arrested for Alabama Hotel Arson

A LANDMARK HOTEL IN TALLASSEE, ALABAMA, was gutted and destroyed early Monday morning when a fire spread through the Talisi Hotel around 3 am.  Within hours, police had arrested a juvenile and charged him with setting the fire in an adjacent consignment store that was also destroyed.

Birmingham News / Songer

The hotel was already full ablaze when the first units arrived on scene, with 150 firefighters eventually working the job.  The Montgomery Advertiser reports:

The recently reopened, three-story downtown hotel was widely known for its Southern-style buffet restaurant, which attracted people from miles away.

Tallassee Mayor George McCain said the loss of the landmark is devastating for the city.  “What it means is we are going to have to completely rebuild downtown because that is the anchor of downtown,” McCain said.

Investigators, after following some tips, arrested and took into custody Monday afternoon a 17-yr.-old boy and charged him with 2 counts arson second degree; 1 count burglary third degree; 1 count of theft 1st degree and criminal mischief.  They say that he broke out a window in the consignment shop and stole some merchandise, then set the fire.  Mayor George McCain says that the boy confessed in writing to the crime.

No real surprise here, but I thought I’d pass on the news that the ATF has officially declared that the large fire in the Rochester Family Dollar store was intentionally set, and a $5,000 reward is being offered for information about who set it.  (See Firegeezer reports HERE and HERE.)  The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported yesterday (HERE) that:

Chris Porreca of the ATF said 16 investigators from throughout the country completed a “painstaking” investigation, with help from eight local investigators.

Porreca said investigators have determined where the fire started in the Family Dollar, but he would not release the information while the local investigation is ongoing.

Rochester Fire Chief John Caufield said his department has not linked the North Clinton fire with a fire that occurred earlier the same day at a Family Dollar store on North Goodman Street. ATF agents did not investigate that fire.

Do you remember our chat last Friday about the S & H green stamps?  (HERE)  One of the unique gimmicks of the S & H company was their willingness to get almost anything that you wanted to exchange your stamp books for.  People used them to get vacation trips to Disneyland and churches ran collections to get enough books for a new social room kitchen, for example.

One of our readers pointed out that his VFD had a campaign to collect stamp books and they accumulated enough to get a new pumper for the firehouse.  They acquired stamps worth $17,000 and purchased a new 1963 Howe/International 750 gpm pumper with a 500-gal. tank.

FOR THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN THREE MONTHS a tourist-gift shop has been completely gutted by a suspicious fire in Daytona Beach, Florida.  Sometime after 6 pm Tuesday evening this latest fire was reported at the Hurricane Surf Wear on Atlantic Ave.  By the time the first-in units were on the scene the entire building was fully involved.  WFTV reports:

The owner of Hurricane Surf Wear, Yoram Brittom, looked like he was in a state of shock, as he watched the business he’s run for 20 years, burn.

“That’s your life down the drain. I have to build everything up again. It won’t be easy,” Brittom says he left his clothing shop around 4:00pm Tuesday and at 7:00pm someone called and told him about the fire.

However, a tourist told a reporter from the Daytona News-Journal:

“We went yesterday to get (my son) swim trunks, but the place was all locked up,” he said. “The neon ‘open’ lights were on, but the doors were locked at 3 or 4. We had to go up the street. But today they had the side door open and were moving boxes into a truck. We were joking about it.”

It’s unclear who owns the property — there is no entry on the Volusia County Property Appraiser’s Web site for the address provided by officials. The state’s Division of Corporations also has no listing for either Hurricane Beach and Sportswear or Hurricane Surfwear — as the business is called in an online advertisement that says its open seven days from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and specializes in T-shirts, swimsuits, cigarette rolling papers, hookahs and cigars.

The FD was able to confine the fire easily because it was a free-standing building.  WESH-TV has a video report with some good fire footage:

State Fire Marshal investigators are on the scene this morning to begin searching for the cause.  On Labor Day there was another suspicious fire in a gift shop on the beachfront area that has not yet been solved.  (See Firegeezer report on that fire HERE.)

Murdered Firefighter’s Son Charged

THE 21-YR.-OLD SON OF A WACO, TEXAS, FIREFIGHTER was arrested and charged yesterday for his father’s murder and arson of his home on November 11.  The McLennan County Sheriff’s deputies took custody of Ramonell Stephens, 21, at the burn unit in Parkland Hospital in Dallas and transferred him to the county jail where he is being held on $2 million bond.

According to investigators, the incident began around 10 pm Wednesday, November 11, when Stephens entered his father’s house and shot him in the head.  Stephens then took a can of gasoline and poured it over and around his father’s body and around the house.  When he lit the fuel, there was an explosion that set Stephens on fire and destroyed the house, leaving Ramonell James’ body burned beyond recognition.  James had been a Waco firefighter for 28 years.

Stephens, while seriously burned from head to toe, got in his car and started to drive away, but a short ways down the road he couldn’t travel any further and stopped where he was found by a Texas Public Safety officer moments later.  Stephens told the officer that he had just shot someone and blown up his house.  The officer also found a .40-caliber pistol in the car.

An autopsy Friday identified James, 55, as the victim and confirmed that he had died from the gunshot wound before he was set afire.  The Waco Tribune REPORTS:

In a statement taped by sheriff’s investigators, Stephens admitted again that he shot his father and poured gasoline on his body, on his bed and around the house before setting it on fire. Investigators found gasoline on his shirt, pants and shoes, according to another complaint to support the arson charge. The murder complaint alleges that Stephens bought a handgun at a local pawnshop the day before his father was shot. Also, in the days leading up to the incident, Stephens reportedly bought a gas can, gas, black work gloves and Kingsford lighter fluid at various area stores.

Both charges are first-degree felonies, punishable by up to life in prison.

The five men he regularly worked with at the Imperial Drive fire house had to do their jobs Friday without him.

“It was hard to come to the station this morning,” said Lt. Jeff Pruitt Friday afternoon. “We’re going to do our jobs, and protect the public and try to go about our day.  But today is not a normal day. We’re all trying to wrap our heads around what happened to Ramonell.”

The men, who normally pray before each meal, included James and his family in each prayer Friday, Pruitt said. They also hung his helmet in the fire engine so he’d be with them everywhere they went.

About 20 minutes later, shortly after noon, fire was reported at another Family Dollar store less than 3 miles away on N. The Clinton Ave. store is located in a major shopping plaza and the fire spread to several other stores including a pizzeria and the Fireball Wireless cellphone store.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports:

Rochester Fire Lt. Willie Jackson said authorities have notified all local Family Dollar stores that “there may be a problem.”

Around 12:15 p.m., 911 dispatchers broadcast a “special attention” call throughout the county for police agencies to be on the lookout for an apparent arsonist striking Family Dollar stores.

At 2 pm the fire was still out of control and spreading to other stores.

Murder/Arson Suspect Killed in Shootout

THE KEY SUSPECT IN A MURDER/ARSON COMMITTED just over a week ago in Garland County, Arkansas, was killed in a gunbattle with police last night in a Hot Springs hotel.

The crimes in Pearcy included the arson of a mobile home residence and the murders of the four people inside as well as the shooting death of their next-door neighbor.  One of the victim’s automobile was also torched a few minutes later several miles away.  See the report from AllHeadlineNews HERE.

The police task force working on the case recieved information yesterday that the unidentified-suspect was registered in a motel on the main highway leading into Hot Springs and they converged on and surrounded the room where he was lodged.  As they attempted to move in on him, he started shooting at the police, hitting two of them before they killed him in the return gunfire.

No Bond For Jailbird/Firefighter

Comments Off

HENRY COUNTY, GEORGIA, PRISONER JAMIE CLARK has had his probation suspended and he is back “inside” with no bail available.  Firegeezer last reported on the McDonough City’s risky decision to take the former jail trusty on as a volunteer firefighter while allowing him daily freedom to perform janitorial work at city offices, including the fire and police stations.

Unfortunately, nobody thought to run a background check (on a prisoner!) where they would have found out that his lengthy criminal record included convictions for arson.  For the background to this story, see our report on this unusual situation back on November 5 HERE.  His freedom to roam the city ended when he was arrested and charged with breaking into the police department storage rooms and stealing several guns and drugs that were being held as evidence in other cases.  Investigators found some of the stolen guns in Clark’s room and they also say that they have a videotaped confession to the break-in, a charge that he denies on tv interviews.

Recently Clark was arraigned on the burglary and theft charges and his probation was suspended, effectively putting him back in jail without bond until his next trial begins.

Wine Arsonist Pleads Guilty

Comments Off

A CALIFORNIA MAN APPEARED IN FEDERAL COURT MONDAY and admitted that he had set the fire that destroyed 6 million bottles of California’s finest wine.  Mark Christian Anderson, 61, has been in custody for nearly two years because he has been unable to post a 1/2-million-dollar bond after being charged with starting a devastating fire in October 2005 that resulted in a $200 million to $400 million loss.

Anderson was the operator of a secure warehouse on the grounds of the former Mare Island Naval base in Vallejo, California.  He leased the storage space to wineries and wealthy wine collectors as a safe repository for vintage and archival wines.  The repository held archival samples as well as some entire vintages from 95 Napa Valley wineries and about 50 private collectors.  The loss of entire vintages caused a major upheaval in the world wine market.

Following the fire, investigators found a gas-soaked rag and a propane igniter nearby and seventeen months later had arrested him.  There is speculation that Anderson had been covertly selling off some of the higher-vintage wines and used the arson as a means to cover up his criminal activity.

He was scheduled to be tried today (Tuesday) on the arson charge, but in a suprise move agreed at the last minute to a plea-bargain that will result in a sentence of 15 yrs. and 8 months imprisonment by pleading guilty to arson resulting in injury to two firefighters, interstate transportation of stolen property, mail fraud, use of an alias as part of a mail fraud scheme and income tax evasion.

The Sacramento Bee REPORTS:

Anderson opened Sausalito Cellars on the village’s waterfront in 1998. He admitted Monday that he began embezzling his clients’ products and selling them to premium wine merchants and auction houses ….  He also used the aliases Peter Martin and Joseph Throckmorten, he acknowledged in court.

Anderson admitted Monday that, even though he made hundreds of thousands of dollars selling his clients’ wine, he failed to file federal income tax returns for 2001 through 2004. The indictment alleges he had income of $808,952 during that period, on which he owed $290,623 in taxes.

He is still facing embezzlement charges in a California Superior court.
