My community banned the sale of Silly String in the mid 1980's. During a particularly hot Labor Day parade, "silly String" that was sprayed onto fire apparatus, police cruisers and antique cars int he parade caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the paint finishes.

This is very sad. I feel horrible for all those innocent animals who lost their lives. Has it been determined how the fire started yet?

Of all the sources of information available Wikipedia must rank only slightly above asking the guy next to you at the bar. Because there is no knowing who wrote the entry, there is no attribution nor is there any responsibility for the accuracy of the entry. You, at least, sign your name to your blog and take responsibility for what you write. Please do not reference sites like Wikipedia on your excellent blog.

<em>John,
I understand your concerns about Wikipedia's standards, but this particular entry is well footnoted and has a dozen or so bona fide reference sources listed, including NASA and the U of Bologna among others, that I checked out. I'm comfortable with this one. Thanks, Firegeezer.</em>

One would think that a casual glance (at the very least) of the magazine used might have revealed to an experienced eye that something was amiss.

If we are to assume that the magazines with live and blank ammunition were not marked differently in some way, then the soldier is also probably thinking about the possibility of loading blanks one day when he really needs live ammo.

Either way, it's a bad deal and a great candidate for immediate policy change. Just another of those 'Important Safety Tips' that seems too small to even mention to a trained professional... until something happens and we realize how the smallest mistakes can have the biggest consequences.

Actually, we don't fly around with armed nukes in the continental US or anywhere for that matter. We do fly around on exercises with nukes hanging from the wings but they are not armed until they are dropped. To arm it also takes a conscious decision by the pilot and/or bombardier to lift a guard and then flip a switch and then to press at least one other button to actually drop it. If it just falls off the wing it will drop to the ground and make a hole without exploding. With all the safeguards on the weapon it CAN'T explode that way. You should know your facts before you speak.

Knowing Ed Harrington myself, he probably started the fire just to "start a political fire" as he knew that the fire department had had enough of his shinagins. Ed Harrington was caught hiding in the bushes and taking photos of the female employee changing her uniform.

Ed Harrington knew that they would not respond to him so I am sure he set it all up, I asked him, he never denied it but just went on some stupid rant about how the fire department is useless.

This has been a serious problem in Tuscaloosa County for several years. But I understand the attorneys are circuling the family in the anticipation of legal action. All the ambulance services know the policies and it is a problem that is not just occuring in Tuscaloosa County. Carroll's Fire District is a combination department staffed with career & volunteer members that respond to 3 to 5 calls a day they have EMT/First Responders 24 hrs a day. They were on the scene within 3 mins after being dispatched to this call, the average ambulance responce time is 15 to 20 mins. CCFD, like all depts in Tusc Co, get along well with the local ambulance services/crews.
