While Responding To An Emergency
IN THE YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO, AREA a Beaver Township ambulance was struck head-on by a car that was in the wrong lane while it was responding to a medical emergency Tuesday morning.
WKBN-TV is reporting:
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said William J. Robb, 48, of Lowellville, was driving at about 12:45 a.m. northbound on state Route 164 in Beaver Township when he passed a car by driving in the opposite lanes.
When he pulled into the oncoming lanes, he struck a Life Fleet ambulance driven by Lori Dalonzo, who was en route to picking up a patient with emergency lights and sirens activated.
Robb suffered non-life threatening injuries and Dalonzo was unharmed, OSHP said.
The collision sparked a small fire in the engine compartment of the auto. An unconfirmed report says that the ambulance crew pulled the driver out of the car before the fire extended into the passenger compartment.
