CANADA HAS ALREADY CELEBRATED their Thanksgiving, but that didn't mark an end to the festivities. The Ottawa Citizen tells us:
A Gatineau single-storey home has been destroyed after a cooking fire broke out in the garage.
Gatineau Fire Services responded to a call at 12:48 p.m. on Saturday at 1496 Arthur St. They found the home in flames. Four people were evacuated from the residence.
Fire crews determined that a container of oil which was left unattended on a propane fryer in the garage caused the fire. Two other residences were also slightly damaged by the flames.
Cost of the damage was estimated at $140,000.

THE TAMPA, FLORIDA, FIREFIGHTERS WERE all set to put on a demonstration for the press, and thus the public, on how dangerous it can be to cook your bird in a gas-fueled deep fryer. The plan was to immerse a partially-thawed turkey in the hot oil and show the explosive result when the moist fowl hits the oil. But at the last minute, the demo was canceled. The Tampa Bay Times reported:
Although the National Fire Protection Agency discourages the use of outdoor gas-fueled turkey fryers that immerse the bird in hot oil, fire officials acknowledge people are going to do it anyway.
It poses several serious hazards: fire, injury and property damage, to name a few.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, several firefighters were going to show a gaggle of reporters how bad it could get when a supervisor pulled the plug.
It wasn't safe, they said.

As Thanksgiving nears, it’s time to remind all Naval Base Ventura County personnel that in accordance with regulations and by recommendation of the National Fire Protection Association, the American Burn Institute and Underwriters Laboratories Inc., turkey fryers are prohibited on Navy Region Southwest government facilities, Navy housing excluded.
For those who want to fry at home, list of precautions and safety tips follow.
