Some Good Stories Coming Off the News Ticker

The U. S. House of Representatives passed a measure yesterday that restores most of the funding that had been reduced from the budget for the firefighter SAFER grants and other related grants.  They accomplished that by shifting funds that would have been spent on bureaucrats and other staff functions in the office of the Secretary of Homeland Security.  This action is covered in The Hill HERE.

We've all heard the bore who yells into his cellphone while using it in public places, thus drawing us into the conversation.  A Delaware man who was staying in a Wicomico County, Maryland, motel Tuesday night did just that.  Several residents in the motel heard him telling his phone buddy that there was a warrant out for his arrest and the police were looking for him.  Within a few moments, several calls were made to the sheriff's office telling them where to find him.  WBAL-TV Ch. 11 Baltimore has the STORY.

Also from Maryland, the Owings Mills Patch is reporting that:

Police and fire officials are searching the Liberty Reservoir’s water and woods for a missing Randallstown resident and Baltimore City Fire Department recruit.

Rodney Earl Goggins Jr., 20, was reported missing by his family on Monday, May 30, and did not show up to work for his training with the Baltimore City Fire Department on Tuesday, May 31, according to Lt. Robert McCullough, spokesman for Baltimore County Police.

The Patch's full report is HERE.
