Tuesday Morning Odds 'n' Ends
I've got some Post-Its piling up that I need to take care of, so I'll use this morning's lineup to pass them along to you. That way I can clear my desk and clutter your database at the same time. We'll start off by referring you to a story posted over the weekend on STATter911 about a fire in Florida at a transformer refurbishing plant. Just after the first engine arrived, an explosion occurred inside the fire building that damaged the engine. Dave Statter has a full report with 3 videos to check out HERE.
We talked at length yesterday about the auction of the Blockbuster assets that was scheduled for yesterday. It began on time, but is expected to last for several days. The bidders have each been assigned rooms in the Federal courthouse where they can figure and plan their next offers for the various pieces of the former chain that is being broken up for parts. While the court has not divulged who the players are, some people who have good contacts are saying the Carl Icahn is indeed there along with SK Telecom, the South Korean mobile phone operator who are interested in the digital rights that they could use to get a big jump into the download streaming to cellphone business. Two bidders are liquidators that want to get the dvd's and storefronts to sell off the stock, and Dish TV showed up as well. I guess we'll just wait and watch to see how this turns out.
A report in the Baltimore Sun newspaper came out Saturday telling about a VFD in Western Maryland that is hopelessly in debt and cannot make any payments on its $600,000+ loans. Now the creditors have done with the hoping and have filed legal motions to seize the FD's properties, the station house, hose, all equipment, trucks…..everything. You can read the Sun article HERE.
And to cap off this morning's collection, we have to pass along to you the story of a deputy fire chief in New Jersey who spotted a burglary in progress and was able to summon the police in time to nab the criminals. What caught his eye was one of the burglars, a woman, was wearing loud pajama pants that had bright red hearts all over them. There are even more chuckles to this story, so take a moment to view this news video of the fumbling burglars from WABC-TV:
Ok, time to get to work now. Let's get this equipment checked out and I'll make sure we've got enough coffee for our get-together in the day room.
