Did One of Them Bust the Red Light?

A VINCENNES, INDIANA, FIRE DEPARTMENT TRUCK collided with a Knox County EMS ambulance Sunday afternoon while they were both responding to the same call.  The accident occurred around 2:30 pm and both units had their lights and sirens activated.

WTHI-TV

When the approached the intersection of 6th and  Hart Streets, they did not see each other until too late to react.  The hard collision did extensive damage to both vehicles and sent five people to the hospital with a variety of non-life threatening injuries.

WTHI-TV Ch. 10 provided this video report:

Later the police reported that the fire truck had the red light and ran through it.

Firefighter Close Calls is reporting that all injured personnel were released from care and everybody on both rigs were wearing their seatbelts.  Read their report with more photos HERE.

I’m a little caught off guard that it took the box right off the rescue. Must have been a decently high velocity impact.

My bad, other photos show that the frame was bent. Bad luck, glad everyone’s alive.

Hey, It happens. I used to be an EMT for Knox County Ambulance when it was then known as Halter Smith Ambulance service. ^th and Hart is A bad, bad, bad intersection. It’s where basically ALL of the town merges to go N.S.E. or W. I have always feared that intersection – especially when there was a Signal 10 run ( Emergency ). And, in that back of my mind I have ALWAYS wondered not if – but WHEN there would be a severe accident there. ( Retired Unit # 31 )
