The Mega-Millions Lottery jackpot is approaching $300 million and tomorrow (Tuesday) is the next drawing. It is estimated that the after-tax payout will be around $200 million. Every time in the past when the jackpot soars like this, there is a surge of additional players at the last minute who boost the final payout way up.
There are about 42 states that participate in Mega-Millions, so I know that a lot of fire/EMS people will be buying some tickets, and no doubt many shifts will be pooling their loose cash to buy group purchases.
