Earlier email from Local 4646 President

AFFI Brothers and Sisters, Illinois Fire Service members and the family of Hinsdale Deputy Chief Mark Johnson:

The members of IAFF Local 4646 are ashamed of the irresponsible behavior and comments made by officials and citizens at a recent Oak Brook Citizens Financial Advisory Committee meeting.

We are extremely grateful to all of you for your support. Some of you alerted the media, others created websites, and even more expressed their desire to attend Tuesday’s Oak Brook Board of Trustees meeting to express your outrage directly.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could delay attending a trustee meeting until our local finishes consulting with our executive board, Local 4646 membership, the AFFI and the IAFF on the proper course of action.

Thanks again brothers and sisters. We’ll keep you informed of further developments.

Fraternally,

George Grodek, President
IAFF Local 4646

Brother, this guy is a real peach. I know that this has nothing to do with the FD. However, he has a past history of being anti-public employee. Look what he did for the Library……

I can tell you the chains are keeping the dogs at bay. We’re all waiting for the word to show up and support sanity for our brothers and sisters in Oak Brook..

Every community has one or more of these idiots that show up regularly at City/County Council meetings and pontificate on everything from fire/rescue services to UFO’s. Don’t know the history in Oak Brook, but from the descriptions I’ve read, this guy sounds like he belongs to that ilk. We used to have a guy in West Palm Beach who would show up at Council meetings there wearing a toilet seat around his neck, similar to a horse collar, and then rail about city services, politics, etc. But way to deal with them is to have a solid base of support on the Council and let them handle it in the spot, with astout defense of the FD and other related services. Unless council members take this guy seriously, I wouldn’t either, as you will run the risk of having it backfire in your face.

    Hi Chiefbobr:

This guy is an “up from poverty” Chicago resident who was a Marine and became a successful criminal attorney. I doubt he is crazy, pretty sure we are seeing his negotiation skills after decades of practicing criminal law.

While extreme, there are some like him in every community. We need to develop new tactics and skill sets to protect the fire department resources and the hard-won workplace gains.
