THE ALAPOCAS RUN STATE PARK IN WILMINGTON, Delaware, has a designated rock climbing area, but on Saturday afternoon it became a high-angle rescue scene. A man fell from the top of the cliff and landed on a rock ledge 40 feet below leaving him seriously injured.
The fall was unwitnessed so it’s not know how long he was laying there when two people heard his faint calls for help. They were down below and could not see where the victim was. When the Wilmington Fire Department arrived they had trouble locating him for several minutes, too. They called for the New Castle County technical rescue task force for assistance and the rescue operation began.

The rescuers repelled from the top down to the victim where they gave him primary first aid care and packaged him up to be lowered the rest of the way down to a waiting paramedic team. He was then taken to a helicopter for transport to the hospital where he was admitted with life-threatening injuries.
