Ambulance, Train Collide in Vancouver Island

A B-C AMBULANCE NARROWLY AVOIDED CALAMITY Sunday evening when the driver of the ambulance took evasive action that prevented a full impact with a passenger train at Langford, British Columbia.

The ambulance was responding to a call for a medical emergency just before 8 pm and was approaching a railroad crossing while going up a slight incline.  The angle put the sunlight directly in the driver’s eyes and she was not able to see the warning signal for the train in operation.  As she got to the crossing, the 25-yr.-veteran paramedic saw the train right on her and swerved right, putting the ambulance parallel to the tracks between a light pole and the train.

The train only glanced the rear of the ambulance and nobody on either the ambulance or the train were injured.

Vancouver Island A-News filed this video report:

The Times-Colonist has the STORY.

The ambulance needed to be towed away, but damages are not expected to exceed $3,000.

That's just about enough $$$ to replace one Whelan light bar.
