A MIDLAND, PENNSYLVANIA, VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER was charged last week with several criminal counts including homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and other charges resulting from an accident last August 9.

Jonathan Hogue, 20, was driving his personal car with his emergency lights activated at speeds up to 75 mph and passing cars when he collided with a motorcycle, killing the 23-yr.-old bike rider.

The Beaver Valley Times reports:

According to a 2009 accident report and a criminal complaint, Hogue and passenger Josh Weber, no age or address provided, were traveling west on Route 30 near Platt Road around 8:40 p.m., and Hogue was driving at speeds ranging from 66 to 75 mph. He passed several cars, and his 2007 Dodge Caliber was in the eastbound lane when it struck Loeffler’s bike as it was traveling east.

After striking the motorcycle, Hogue’s car struck a car driven by Nadia M. Diboun, 26, of Pittsburgh head-on and then a third vehicle. The occupants of the third vehicle were not injured.

Hogue and Diboun were severely injured and were flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.

Investigation quickly revealed that there was no fire or other emergency at that time.

Hogue also faces charges of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and a host of traffic violations, including speeding and using his emergency lighting in a nonemergency situation.
