A New Voice on the Radio

WHEN THE CREW WORKING THE NEWS ROOM AT OMAHA, NEBRASKA, Channel 3  heard a child’s voice coming over their emergency radio scanner, they took notice.

“Rescue squad number 21 on [sic] route to Immanuel code 2,” the young voice said, apparently coming from an ambulance.  Curious, a camera crew went to station 21 and discovered what happened.

A reporter from the station who seems to be a little more worked up over it than she needs to be, tries her best to make it into a scandal, but it has a harmless ending.  Watch the video report:

    It must be a VERY slow news day. Does the reporterette think she`s uncovered some major breakdown in the “system”? The crew may have made a less than smart move by letting the lil dude talk on the radio, but many times we`ll do things like they did to calm a kid down. You`ve never had a kid in a car and let them do a radio check?

    Jeez, lady, the kid was telling dispatch they were going to the hospital, not exactly the most inportant info the ER people are going to need.

    I've done this on many occasions where we've been transporting the childs parent. It's a good distraction and helps build trust with the kids. This lady is ridiculous. I see nothing wrong with this garbage.

    Is Omaha really that dull that this is some sort of scoop? Really, is it some sort of breach of national security to let a kid make a routine transmission on the radio? This is a non story and the so called reporter should be ashamed. Better, she should be fired.

    Well, to be honest this is just one of million things the citizens and media in omaha are. Its ridiculous. That city tries to find every little thing they can do to scrutinize public safety in omaha. Everyday is omaha fire union this or Omaha police union that. And public safety is pretty damn well in that city for being a municipal dept. Check out KETV.com or WOWT.com and read some of the stories and comments of how people seriously are towards public safety, its dispises me!

    In one of the stories at action3news.com, I found this jewel of a quote… “While, Omaha won't comment on the investigation, the Bellevue Police Chief, who's also a firefighter, tells us his city doesn't have a specific procedure either, but compares it to an officer loaning a gun to someone, you just don't do it. The investigation should wrap up Friday.”

    Where do they find these idiots? Is there really a police chief out there who thinks a kid talking in the radio is comparable to a cop loaning out his gun? That kid did a better job on the radio than some of the people on my fire department do.
