Juvie Jail Bust-out Aided by Fire Chief’s Truck

Comments Off

THE MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, SHERIFF disclosed that Sunday night two teenage boys at a “juvenile diversion” camp ran away from the facility by stealing a pickup truck that is owned by the Big Pine Key Fire Department.

The 2006 Chevrolet HD2500 was parked at the fire station and used by the VFD’s chief.  The  boys admitted that they found the key to the truck hidden inside the gas filler cover.  They were first missed by the camp staff at an 11 pm bed check, but they waited a couple of hours to see if they’d show up before notifying the sheriff’s office.  Later, at 4 am a report came that the truck had been stolen and putting 2 and 2 together, the sheriff put out an area-wide lookout.  In a short time they were located and taken into custody 90 miles away.
