FIRE BROKE OUT AROUND 1 PM ON CHRISTMAS DAY at a St. Louis, Missouri, church that rapidly escalated to four alarms.  The 75-yr.-old New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church was unoccupied at the time, but it was discovered just an hour after services had finished.

When the FD arrived the building was already untenable and outside operations were set up.  A total of 20 units and 80 FF’s had the fire under control in 90 minutes, but Fire Dept. officials say that it appears to be a total loss.  No other information has been released yet.

Sad for this to happen on the holidays.

It's been my experience that most churches live in a state of extreme complacency. They don't' believe anything will ever go wrong and some aren't even up to local fire codes/compliance.
