It doesn’t matter what else is going on in the world today, the one big event that everybody will be watching is Santa’s annual drive around the globe as he distributes those desired presents to the good little boys and girls.
A dedicated video crew from the Associated Press managed to snag a brief interview with him at his North Pole home in Lapland the other day. What is remarkable about this interview is the disclosure (for the first time ever, I believe) of Santa’s Earth Rotation Control Device, that hitherto secret machine that slows down time so that the jolly old elf can manage to get to everybody’s house in the span of just 24 hours. Take a look:
That was recorded earlier this week. Naturally, the famed U. S. military global radar installation (NORAD) is following Santa’s flight, as they do every year, so that the G.L.B.’s&G.’s can see where he is during the lead-up to his arrival at their house. As they’ve done for many years now, they are posting Santa’s progress on their website, so set up one of your laptop computers for the kids and CLICK HERE to log onto NORAD’s Santa Tracker. Just refresh it during the day and follow his travels. (Update: the page refreshes itself, so just leave it on.)
Santa is really a “cool dude” who is always up-to-date with his navigational equipment. As you’ll see on the NORAD page, he is also posting updates on Facebook and Twitter, as well as texting to those who send him their phone number. And, this year he has also added a device that shows his position on Google Earth. Just click on the tab at the top of the page over the map. He is also using his new web cam to document his visits as he goes. Click on “videos” up there to check out those. And click on the little wrapped-present icons to see snapshots of where he’s been.
Due to the magic of the International Date Line, Santa has already begun his adventure. As I’m writing this he has just left New Zealand and is passing through Micronesia. Here’s his latest webcam report from Auckland, New Zealand:
Hey, we’d better get this equipment checked out before we get too focused on the flight. I’ll get the coffee started and then we can meet back in the day room to see how far Santa’s traveled.
