Michigan Yanks Ambulance License

IN A RARE, BUT APPARENTLY JUSTIFIED MOVE, the Michigan Department of Public Health has shut down a private EMS service and canceled their license to operate.  The company operates under two names, Island City Area EMS in Eaton Rapids and Delton Area EMS in Barry County.  The firm has been operating for only 16 months, but in that time it has been cited with over 30 violations including:

  • Exhaust leak in the patient compartment.
  • No proof that any of the employees were certified.
  • No oxygen masks or stethoscopes.
  • A defibrilator that doesn’t work.
  • No appropriate liability insurance.
  • Failure to provide secure drug boxes on the units.
  • Mechanically unfit ambulances that couldn’t respond to calls.
  • Self-upgrading non-emergency transfers to emergency runs in order to increase reimbursement fees.

It was also reported that the employees were not receiving full compensation for their work.

    Who ever re-wrote this need to re-watch and then find the truth there was never this so called leak, there majority of the EMT-B and Medics Carried there own but there was also 3 sets per rig in service. All there mechanical so called difficaltis where taking care of jus as outher services have issues so did they. Acording to state Lic's reg that only need one rig to service both areas yet he had 3 one for each station and 3rd for back in case of issue's that may a rise. from alt going out or some Idiot Medic/Supervisor of old that would leave the rigs unplug for hours on end. No matter what the weather was like.

    Your grammer and spelling is so poor that your post is hardly readable. If you're trying to make an argument or point about something, you would come across much more credible (and believable) if your grammer wasn't so poor!

    With so many violations, I think the state did the right thing.

    I agree about FindTheTruth's comment is horrible – Also I guess AJ has this person (that is if it is not AJ himself) so brain washed that they are sticky up for him, when I have been to the hearings and heard the State Inspector testify about the exhaust leak and all the many problems there was with two of the ambulances. The person that made the comment above needs to take a step back and really look at everything and you will really see how AJ has you brain washed – he is not bright at all, he will not listen to anyone because he knows best and now look at where that has gotten him. Look at how many people he has went through in his life and you will see that all these people finally wished up to him and realized how messed up he is and there is no helping him because he will not admit that he has a problem – when he does.

    I'm not sticky up for him. Damn read what you type. If you sat in the hearings then you must be one of the disgruntled employees that seem to be spewing there guts out for all the wrongs that have been done to them. Give me a break, you are the most naive EMS people on earth. Mike Strong, most likely a friend of yours, made allegations after he was fired that will not be upheld. The State of Michigan with a bitter and vindictive woman who has her own agenda will eventually be called out. AJ's biggest mistake was his bad choices for some of his employees. Certified they were but lacking common sense. Don't get me started on the highest ranking ex-employees they know who they are and what they've not done to make this a successful ambulance service.

    As a empoylee and officer of this company I can say that only 2 of the violations are factual. A former employee who also stole from the company and who also has friends on the state board, set up the company for failure. Former employee Mike Strong set up a gas accout in the companies name with the school district, like a lot of local departments do, for desel fuel. A few weeks later also set up an unleaded fuel account with the same school district and under the companies name and racked up an over $1,500 bill for unleaded fuel. The company owns one unleaded fuel vehicle, which does not operate at the station Mike was at and has never refueled at that school districts refueling station. The township asked the company to let Mike Strong go for many reasons, which the company was already drawing up papers to do. Mike as falsified a lot of documents and violated many company regulations. Such as making purchases without company approval. Mike was unhappy with his termination, and the owner of the company already had suspitions of Mike planning to take down the company. Which Mike did.
