The anti-theft devices TOLVAC units are equipped with, when activated by the crew, allow the key to be removed from the ignition and the ambulance to remain running. If the key is not replaced and the device switched off, the engine will be shut off as soon as the brake pedal is depressed.

Lee M. - Town of Liberty Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Vince,
There seems to be a few different types on the market. One allows you to take the key out of the ignition and leave the motor running. If somebody puts the transmission in gear, the motor shuts off and you go nowhere.

Another permits you to leave the motor running but lock the doors. If a door is opened before a pocket key-lock device is activated, it shuts off.

Bill S.

________________________________
