The LaCrosse fire department is not alone in its struggles to deal with local government and plummeting budgets.

Here's a link to a somewhat similar situation, except that I think the mayor in this story may have actually done some of his homework and is looking to engage the fire department in an honest and open conversation about providing the level of fire service that their community can afford. At least I hope that's what the result is going to be:

Ron, The chief sluffed it off. His memo back to the mayor says, “I do not believe that your concept has merit.”

I think the boy mayor is the only one who thinks it's a good idea.

You got your proactive and your reactive…you've got your dumb and dumber…This Mayor is like a meal in the restaurant…sometimes the meal doesn't arrive at the table exactly the way the menu described it…. God Bless the brotherhood in Lacrosse !

Stupid idea, but remember volunteers are trained professionals, too.
