A FIRE THAT RACED THROUGH A WOOD-FRAME APARTMENT HOUSE early Tuesday morning in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, killed three people. After investigation, the fire marshals have ruled that the fire was an arson.
When the FD arrived at the scene shortly after 2:30 am, the front half of the 2-story building was heavily involved. The Oklahoman reports:
“Dispatch reported that there were people trapped in an apartment and when we got there, that was the case,” (Deputy Chief Cecil) Clay said.
A total of nine people were apparently home when the fire was reported. Three people were found dead inside and two were injured when they escaped, Clay said. One woman injured her back while jumping out a window and a man burned his hand on a door knob before exiting an apartment window.
“Our crews made an initial interior attack because there were people trapped,” Clay said. “They fought their way in, and we did find two victims, but they were already deceased so they did not remove them at that time.”
Two of the adult victims were on the second floor of the building. A third was found at the bottom of a first-floor stairwell.
Soon afterward the roof started collapsing and the FF’s were withdrawn. The victims were unrecognizable and have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for identification.

The investigators said that there were two fires set in separate locations on the first floor. There were some working smoke detectors in the building which allowed for six of the tenants to escape. This was the third fire in the house since 2003 according to FD records.
The Associated Press has filed some raw video of the fire:
