Zombies Attack San Francisco

AND SYSTEM STATUS MANAGEMENT WAS PREPARED!

The Happy Medic spent Halloween describing  Station 99’s response to a zombie attack in Union Square.

CARD 37

Your department probably has plans for responding to catastrophic  events.  Years ago I met David Fowler, a retired San Francisco broadcaster who was a big fire department buff.

Fowler helped SFFD prepare the media packages to handle minor to devastating earthquakes.  He also helped write the department’s report of the 7.1 Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.

Happy is horrified to learn that dispatch had prepared Card 37 to handle zombie related ems emergencies.  Who knew!

FOLLOW THE STORY!

Like the Mumbai attack, HM provided realtime posts from the front line:

THE ATTACKS HAVE STARTED Engine and Medic 99 respond to a 37B2 and find four victims in the lobby of the Union Square Macy’s.  Happy learns too late that a 37B2 means “Unconfirmed zombie bite, bleeding controlled.”

TERROR The engine and medic crews are in the basement of Macy’s. Truck 99 made a run for it, but ….  Radio message that all bridges are closed.

WE’RE OUT! Happy steals a 3G iphone and they are on the engine driving to a refuge on a freeway onramp.  Some things never change:

The engine is tearing through traffic, knocking down the undead as we go.  They refuse to yield.  Even undead they can’t hear the siren apparently.

CHINATOWN IS A TRAP! Well, that was not a good idea …

SOMETHING IS CHANGING. Happy is the sole survivor of the ten-person Station 99 crew. “Send donuts!”

Radio and TV stopped working, all I have is this iphone 3g and the battery is getting low. I have only a polaski wildland tool and a 5.5 ET tube (don’t ask) to defend myself. The 5.5 is a handy weapon if you can control it, you know.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE SECURED. Was it all a dream? Happy describes the dispatcher-inspired idea for this story

Happy Medic’s story was more compelling than the first responder’s experience in Cloverfield.
