Morning Lineup – October 28

We’re closing in on two weeks with the new website layout and our affiliation with FireEMS Blogs and Go>Forward Media.  I certainly don’t have any regrets about making the move.  From my side of the monitor, the website operations have been enhanced and several features are being added that make my job easier and more enjoyable.  And I like being enjoyable.

From your side of the monitor, you have seen some improvements already with more on the way over the next few weeks.  One of the major improvements is the “home base” provided by FireEMSBlogs.com, the collection of top-quality websites that serve up news, opinion, events and forums for all things Fire and EMS.  A lot of you have told us over the past two years that you start your mornings with a  cup of coffee (naturally) and check the internet first of all by logging on to Firegeezer and STATter911.  That’s a wise and highly recommended decision, but where do you go next?  That’s where the FireEMSBlogs site comes in handy.  One click over to there brings you a dynamic listing of the most recent postings by all the blogs in the community.  Right there in the middle of the page just under “Today’s Hot Blog Posts” you’ll see “Latest Posts,” a menu of topics and brief descriptions of the articles constantly updating as they’re posted.  Instead of having to keep logging on to a dozen different websites to look for anything  new, they’re all collated right there for you.  It couldn’t be easier.

And there are more than Blogs on the site.  Over on the left side of the homepage, just under the links to all the blogs in the community, you will see a box titled The Fire & EMS Web that has links to some top news sites and forums where you can expand your visit.  Scroll down some more and you’ll come to the Featured Topics box where you can choose from a menu of news headlines or videos to check out.  Feel like you just want to view some videos?  Click on the Videos tab and start down the list.

So take some time to get used to the layout and learn how to make the website advance your browsing opportunities.  There’s a lot of good stuff out there and by making FireEMSBlogs.com your third choice of the day, you’ll be making your information gathering a lot more efficient.

Of course, our efficiencies begin with reliable equipment and plenty of coffee.  So you’d better get started on our morning checks while I go and get the coffee started.
