Will They Add “Arson” to the List?

IN A CITY WALLOWING IN CORRUPTION, DETROIT SUPER-POL Art Blackwell is now involved in an arson controversy.  Blackwell is a well-known deal-maker and dirty politician who is constantly facing criminal charges, yet keeps getting appointed to municipal positions by Michigan leaders including the governor.

Most recently he was appointed four years ago as the “Emergency Financial Manager” of Highland Park, an enclave within Detroit that is more distraught even than East St. Louis, if you can imagine.  But the financial emergencies ended up including some of his own and last week he was charged with embezzling $264,000 from the beleagured city’s checking account.

This weekend his old “office” where he ran his Highland Park duties from was set afire.  The building itself is a former firehouse that is now owned by Blackwell and has already been raided by Wayne County prosecuters searching for evidence in his current problems.  There is a question of who would want to set fire to a bunch of stored papers and old furniture, and why they would to it.  Blackwell says, if he’s to be believed, that the building is uninsured.
