Facebok is a free site, so the programmers or whoever are in charge have nothing to lose if someone gets ticked off and leaves the site. They make their money off the advertising.

Nothing will happen whatsoever. Every time FB makes another change everyone gets pissed off and writes letters and joins groups. No one in their management cares and nothing is ever changed. For such an incredibly popular website Facebook is incredibly poorly designed and completely non-responsive to its constituents.
