THE MAYOR OF FLINT, MICHIGAN, ANNOUNCED EARLIER TODAY that one firefighter has been fired and another is expected to be dismissed tomorrow after they each failed a randomly applied drug test. The Flint Journal reports:
The city began actively enforcing its no-tolerance drug policy the week of Sept. 21, and five firefighters have been tested so far, Mayor Dayne Walling said at a press conference. Police officers are next and eventually all city workers will be tested, he said.“We’re especially focused on our public safety force,” Walling said. “We want a force we can all trust and can all respect.”The tests are conducted during work hours and screen for all illegal substances and alcohol. The drug policy has been on record for years but hasn’t been enforced for a while, Walling said.
