A BRITISH TEAM OF HIGH-LAND SPEED VETERANS that calls itself Bloodhound Supersonic Car is currently testing the engines and aerodynamics of a wheeled vehicle that they hope to use to not only set a new land speed record, but to achieve 1,000 mph while doing it.

Fully fuelled, the 42-ft.-long car will weigh 6.2 tons. It is powered by two engines working in stages, the first one is a Rolls-Royce EJ200 military turbofan engine that will get the car up to 700 mph. The second engine will be a hybrid rocket that will kick in and burn for 20 seconds while developing 20,500 lbs. of thrust. It will impart 2.5 g’s of thrust on accelertion and 3 g’s during deceleration.
Earlier this month Popular Mechanics interviewed the men behind this project and they’ve published several pages on how this program came about and where it stands today. You can read the entire ARTICLE HERE.
