Trigger-Happy Cop Update

FIREGEEZER READERS LEARNED LAST SATURDAY ABOUT the inexcusble behavior of the Jericho, Arkansas, police department.  Things came to a head two days before when an officer pulled out his gun in the town’s courtroom and shot the asst. fire chief in the back after the judge threw out every ticket he’d written for the entire month.

To review, see the Firegeezer video report HERE.

In the week since, so much attention has been brought on the little town on the gravel road that a few more things have happened.  For one, the police chief disbanded the entire police force.  The county prosecutor says that he has no plans to charge the policeman for the shooting.

The Jericho city hall, which has the nation’s narrowest handicapped
parking space, remains locked up and sealed off.

The mayor has gone into hiding.  The town hall is locked up and nobody is answering the phone.  The sheriff has been investigating the disappearance of large sums of city funds and has repossesed one of the town police cars for non-payment on a lease.  The State Forestry Commision had seized a fire truck that it had leased to the city.

Obviously it’s still a mess and getting worse.  FirefighterNation has a follow-up report HERE.

Memphis TV Channel 30 filed this video update last night:
