Propane Explosion Surprises Recycling Plant Workers

A METAL-RECYCLING PLANT IN FORREST CITY, ARKANSAS, was the scene Monday mid-day of a propane explosion that burned two workers and brought work to a halt for a couple of hours.

The workmen were outside cutting up scrap metal with acetylene torches, a routine operation for them, when a nearby propane cylinder started leaking.  The propane vapors migrated to where the men were cutting and ignited.  The flash fire burned both workers on their arms and one of them also suffered severe burns to his back.  They were both airlifted to a burn center.  Physical damages were minor and after the fire marshal finished investigating the plant resumed operations.  WHBQ-TV Ch. 13 Memphis has the video:
