Texting-while-Driving

A shocking video has been made for pupils in an attempt to stop car crashes caused by the driver texting while driving.

The short film, starring young actors from south Wales, shows a teenage girl killing four people after she uses her mobile phone to send a text.

Gwent Police said it hoped the graphic video would be shown in schools around Wales and hopefully the rest of the UK.

Research has shown texting while driving slows reaction time by 35%.

    Wales and UK – hell, it should be shown to teens – and adults – around the world. Five young girls were killed in the Rochester, NY area a few years ago when the driver was texting while driving. By now we’ve probably all ‘been there, done that’ at least once at a crash caused by the same careless behavior. This is excellent, the closeup of the baby’s eye will be with me a long time. Had to be emotional just making this video.

    This should be manditory with all driver training. We had many “death” videos when I took driver training in the 80`s. My kids never had anything like it when they trained. The sad thing is, the younger generation just doesn`t accept that they are at any risk at all. They think they will live forever. Man, I`m getting old…….BUT, it is SO TRUE. I have had 20 something co-workers texting while driving the ambulance! Even priority one!! I made it a point to yell STOP PULL OVER AND LET ME DRIVE, if that text is soooooooo damned important. I have worked a couple nasty crashes where the driver was texting. It`s stupid and it pisses me off…

    Fantastic work. There is another British/UK PSA about the dangers to people inside your vehicle of not wearing seatbelts. In that spot the kids have a wreck and bounce around the interior of the car, cracking bones and skulls. It’s graphic, but not graphically emotional like this one. Very effective work they’re doing, but it wouldn’t fly in the U.S. As Ralph noted, we don’t even show the blood on the road videos anymore here.

    That was a very powerful video. That should be MANDATORY VIEWING for anyone getting their driver’s license for the first time and when people renew their licenses as a reminder. I have already responded to a few “texting while driving” MVCs, luckily the only injuries were minor.

    I may be my advanced age, but I think that this video is more effective than the “road gore” videos of the 1970s.

    I agree with DaGonz and Barbara that this video should be seen by all.
