I just watched F451 and read an essay from Ray Bradbury. He is a fanatic book enthusiast and wrote the F451 short story during the McCarthy era of communist witch-hunts (1950s). It took courageous action by individuals to deflate that drunk megliomaniac.

I’ll go back to what I see so much of: the belief that the fire service doesn’t need college education or professional development because it’s a “blue collar” occupation. Rubbish! It’s akin to that mom and pop mindset you mentioned.
