Update:  Video added.

DENVER, COLORADO, FIREFIGHTERS ATTENDED an early-morning fire today (Monday) when a Dollar City store burned down.  The fire, which drew 14 engine companies, had already filled the store when the first units arrived shortly after 2:40 am.  Defensive attack was the plan as shortly after arrival the roof came down along with part of one wall.

FF’s were still on the scene at 6:00 this morning putting out hot spots.  KDVR-TV reportsInvestigators did not indicate there was a connection between this fire, and one at the Family Dollar (across the street) in March. They did say the most recent fire appeared to start inside the store, while the one at the Family Dollar started outside the building.

KDVR-TV Ch. 31 has this video report with fire footage:

I wonder if insurance rates are on the rise for Dollar Stores. There seem to be a frequent number of fires as of late in them. Glad no one was injured.

Retired last year from FDNY. From 2002 until I got out went to quite a few Dollar Store fires in the Bronx. I can remember at least four were middle of the day, busy street and HEAVY fire on arrival. Talked to a friend who was a Fire Marshall he said they were looking into fires in these occupancies. Never found out if it went anywhere.
