Texting while driving.......Well.......I have told 2 partners to STOP the damned ambulance and let me drive. Why? These dumba$$ twenty somethings thought it was OK to drive while texting because.....OMG...."I have the right of way, because I`m in the ambulance"....WTF?!?! Company policy is NO cell phone use while driving unless an emercency call. HA!!! Damn near everyone talks on their cells while driving. Even FTO`s....WTF? So, if I`m ever in a crash while riding with one of these idiots driving while talking or texting on the cell, I`ll be in court so fast it`ll make their heads spin.

I get very scared seeing drivers texting, talking on cell phones, and putting on make-up while driving,(that include metro-sexual men). Bad drivers to begin with now several distractions!

At least in the fire/EMS world we have a driver to drive and the officer to deal with everthing else.

As for the police I was out on my daily walk down a quiet road and a patrol car came creeping up behind me. I heard the crunching gravel and stepped aside and watched the officer go on with his attention on his computer screen. No wave or eye contact. I wanted to hit his cruiser with my hand and wake him up but thought better of it.

Oh, you're so right, Joe. But at least we usually have someone riding shotgun to do all that. I really cringe when I see cops reading and typing on their onboard terminal while driving, though.

What about responders reading alpha pagers en route, using mobile data terminals, etc. We might be part of the problem.
