THAT’S WHAT CONVICTED MURDERER NICHOLAS GIANQUITTI is looking at after today’s sentencing hearing. The former police officer was convicted in April of killing his next-door neighbor, Cranston, Rhode Island, Fire Lieutenant James Pagano in May of 2008. The judge sentenced him to 40 years with 20 to serve for the 2nd-degree murder conviction. He then imposed a mandated life sentence for using a firearm while committing a violent crime. It will be 34 years before Gianquitti will be able to apply for parole and he will be age 75 then.
The two men squabbled over a tennis ball that had bounced off of Gianquitti’s car while a group of children were in the yard enjoying a birthday party for one of Pagano’s children. The argument escalated and Gianquitti took out a pistol and shot Pagano dead on the front lawn.
