I wish you would have touched on the way some fire departments that are cheapening the LODD funeral, by holding LODD funerals for colleagues that are not LODD. This one really rubs me the wrong way!

It's, like, actually totally AWESOME that you're actually, like, standing up for, like, the historic English language, dude!

It is the people of my (our?) generation -- those born after WWII and before 1960 or so -- who seem to be most responsible for the death by violence of the English language. By butchering the language the way we did in the 60s and 70s, and by failing to instill an appreciation for precise speech in our off-spring, we have created a climate in which clear, grammatical spoken language is an anachronism.

It is sickening to hear things like "her and I went to the store" or "if you know someone, send us their name" or "myself and Officer Jones responded to the call." What is even more disgusting is that I have heard reporters -- print, radio, and TV -- make the latter two mistakes repeatedly (and often in the same report). [Aside: maybe I should be posting this rant at Statter's, since he's a reporter?]

FireGeezer: your source for fire/EMS news, moose information, and on-line tutoring in the English language. On bahalf of those who know better, thank you.
