Why do we wear turnout gear, flashhoods, helmets and SCBA ? Oh yeah, because we're "supposed" to be working in a dangerous environment ! Secondly, One man's "junk" is another man's treasure. I'd hope if my house was on fire a decent attempt to save my "junk" would be made. My neighbor could sit out on the front lawn and lob water in the window from 15 yards away. I expect a little more from trained personnel. Thirdly, Of the 100 firefighters who die in LODD's every year how many ACTUALLY die during interior firefighting ? 30-ish maybe ? How many fires are responded to in the US every year ? I have a feeling more accountants die on the job than firemen...........but the safety brigade wring their hands with the mantra " everyone goes home" ? I just don't get it ? !!!
