Comments Off

A FIRE IN A RANCH-STYLE HOME THAT HAD 15 people in it Saturday morning killed four young children ages 3, 4, 5 and 6.  A 22-yr.-old woman and another 5-yr.-old boy are both in critical condition while nine others have been treated and released, mostly for smoke inhalation.

The fire began shortly before 8 am Saturday morning in Texas Township, pop. 13,000, in the SW corner of the state not far from Kalamazoo.  First-in firefighters were met with pandemonium with all those occupants and the house fully charged with smoke.  The actual fire was in the living room and they were able to contain and extinguish it there.  Texas Township Fire Chief Mike Corfman said the first responding firefighters saved several lives by quickly getting people out of the house.  “The firefighters that were here, what they did today — we had some real heroes here,” Corfman said.
