FIVE LAKESIDE HOMES WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED and three more suffered damages by a fire that started shortly before midnight on Friday. The homes were at Lake James in the northeast corner of Indiana and had restricted accessability for the fire apparatus.
The fire started inside one of the homes and as it burned, strong winds kept pushing the flames into adjacent houses. The only road to the isolated homes was a very narrow trail that posed a challenge for the firetruck operators. Eventually 28 neighboring FD’s from three states were called in to assist.
WANE-TV, Fort Wayne has this video report:
The fire investigators expect to be on the scene until at least Monday. The early estimate of damages is $6 million to $8 million. The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette has the full STORY HERE.
