Around The Fire Web

Comments Off

Again, we offer up some interesting postings from other fire blogs.

Firefighter Close Calls has a doozy today about an Ohio county’s 9-1-1 center having a “Grand Opening” for their upgraded dispatch center.  They started their new system by failing to dispatch the fire dept. to a house fire and failing to answer the incoming calls from frustrated people trying to report it.  The house burned down, as you might expect.  There’s more.  Read the full account HERE.

FireRescue1 has a good article by Jerry Brant on how best to apply for federal grant money under this new stimulus program HERE.

*  If you read the story yesterday on STATter911 about the South Carolina firefighter who claimed to have been abducted at knifepoint recently, then you want to check back today for The Rest of the Story.  It’s the FF who has been arrested instead of the accused.  CLICK HERE to read the story and then scroll down some more to catch the other head-shakers such as the Detroit firefighters who were video taped stealing a storm door off a vacant house.

*  Over at FireNews.net publisher Jeff Harkey has written a Reader’s Guide on how to utilize all these new site readers, posting feeds, Blackberry gadgets and other stuff that keep track of your favorite website updates.  Since I’m a digital dunce myself, I’m reading THE ARTICLE HERE myself so that I can learn how some of these applications function.

*  Bill Gabbert at Wildfire Today has been posting a series of historical wildfire safety posters this month.  He just put #10 in the series up and you can view all of the posters he’s published so far HERE.  He plans to have them all online by the end of this month.

The Happy Medic is running an occasional series on rescue rules that you don’t get in the training academies (you’ll understand why after you read them).  Just go to the homepage HERE and scroll on through the rest of his enjoyable, quirky postings.
