Do you remember our article about the curiously-named “Deer Gun” that we ran back on Sunday, March 15? It was the story about The Gun That Never Was, But Is (posted HERE).

You might be interested to learn that it sold for $13,800. That’s cash, not war scrip.

Omaha’s Randy Captain has now been officially terminated from the fire department. We’re talking, of course, about the guy who made a terrible decision back on Feb. 3 and got caught up in a sheriff’s prostitution sting operation (earlier Firegeezer report HERE, and STATter911 report HERE).
Dave Statter has this latest chapter in the saga, along with a video report HERE (scroll down).

It’s been a few weeks now, but we got another phishing expedition from an office of ambulance-chasers yesterday who are oh, so willing to help us identify and then get indemnified for our “mesothelioma.”
My name is (probably not my real name) and I’m the National Awareness Coordinator for the Mesothelioma Center. While I was browsing through a number of firefighter health and safety sites I came across your website and was very impressed by the information you have listed.
Does this include the information that I gave out back on Jan. 30 (HERE)when I passed along some great offers from some other snake oil salesmen? My new friend provided a link to his wonderful website (with over 3,000 pages!) that claims to be “The Leading Mesothelioma Cancer Resource… a free information service that aspires to provide accurate information, to educate the public on the dangers of asbestos, and to assist people who have already been diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases. The website itself is owned by the XXXXXXX Group, which is a for-profit organization.”
Then he goes on to tell us:
Currently we are campaigning to educate the general public on how to avoid asbestos exposure within their homes. (and get your free money) We understand that local fire departments are tasked with keeping the community safe. (No kidding! You understand that, do you?) Thus, as a public service, we are teaming up with fire departments across the country to help educate the nation about the dangers of asbestos and how to avoid it. (nobody has told you yet that we wear masks at work?)
And just like all the others, a visit to the website presents a challenge to find any names or addresses of who is putting this information up. But with experience behind me I find buried deep down in the 3,000-page website this bit of info: (this website) is sponsored by the XXXXX Firm, LLC. The XXXXX Firm’s office is located at: (more numbers), Orlando, Florida 32xxx. The XXXXX Firm is licensed by the Florida Bar Association to practice law within the state of Florida. Anybody surprised?
But it’s nice to be wanted again.
Now let’s get the equipment checked out. I’ll go start up the asbestos-free coffee pot.
