Comments Off

A FIRE BROKE OUT IN A BLOCK OF BUILDINGS in downtown Tyler, Texas, Monday night around 7:20 pm.  The row of buildings is directly across the street from the court house and as such, contained mostly lawyers’ offices as well as some upstairs apartments and commercial businesses.

Tyler Fire Chief Neil Franklin set up his command post on the roof of the courthouse annex across the street and directed the fire operations from there.  The fire had a limited spread thanks to a lack of the seasonal wind that is usually blowing and several good firewalls in the buildings involved.

Around 10 pm one of the roofs collapsed as 50 firefighters attended the incident.  A Tyler 9-1-1 dispatcher told the press that the fire had “completely engulfed” some of the buildings.  This morning the Tyler Morning Telegraph is reporting that “several” buildings have been gutted by the fire.
