A CARGO PLANE CONTRACTED TO FedEx veered off the runway and started burning early this morning at Lubbock, Texas.
The ATR-42, a twin-turboprop aircraft, is operated by Empire Airways of Coeur d’Aline, Idaho, and landed at the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport during a freezing mist at 4:30 am Tuesday. The plane ended up between a runway and taxiway and came to a halt partially off it’s landing gear. A fire broke out that was soon extinguished successfully by the airport FD and the two pilots walked away from the crash and were treated and released from the hospital with only minor injuries.
