Commercial Fire In Columbus

THE COLUMBUS, OHIO, FIRE DEPARTMENT is picking up from a 2 4-alarm fire earlier today that took out as many as 17 businesses.

The fire was in a block-long 2-story commercial building housing retail shops.  The fire was reported at 10:30 am when customers and employees in several of the stores smelled the smoke and shortly after saw the fire overhead.

The building apparently has a common attic (and unsprinklered).  The fire was contained at 1:30 pm and brought over 100 firefighters to the scene.

    This was actually a 4 alarm fire. Companies were still on the scene 24 hrs later. The fire was battled in extremely cold temps.
