The fire broke out during a storm and was concentrated in the loft and roof area of the house, both of which were heavily damaged. The initial alarm sounded at 8:11 pm Saturday and the responding units found fire already coming through the roof on arrival. Initial attack was from the outside due to the intensity of the fire in the roof structure. After the body of the fire was knocked down, crews moved in to extinguish it, bringing it under control in about 45 minutes.
The first and second floors of the house suffered a lot of water damage and the two adjoining wings were not damaged at all. Although nobody is currently living in the home, it is still fully furnished. The 20,000 sq. ft. mansion is owned by businessman Steve Grindstaff and has been offered for sale recently with a price tag of $28 million.
