A FORMER CINCINNATI, OHIO, FIREFIGHTER, Joseph Dance won his petition for an early release from prison yesterday (Tuesday). Just over two years ago in December, 2006, Dance was driving the wrong way on a local interstate highway when he collided with another car, killing the driver and injuring her passenger. He later admitted that he had been drinking the entire evening, visiting several bars and attending another firefighter’s Christmas party.
He pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and was sentenced to four years in prison. Last month he filed a petition to have his sentence reduced claiming that “he has been a model inmate and learned a great deal while in prison.”
Judge Ted Winkler granted his request with some stringent requirements. Dance will still be under house arrest for the remaining two years, he must refrain from any alcohol use, including mouthwash, for five years, he will be under community control for five years and serve 500 hours of community service. A lifetime driving ban also remains in effect.
