TIMED TO COINCIDE WITH THE UPCOMING Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung announced yesterday that they have developed what they believe to be the world’s slimmest LCD television set.

According to their press release, the new product, measuring only 6.5 millimetres (0.26 inch) thick, is thinner than any other existing TV set, and even slimmer than most mobile handsets. Its thickness is one seventh of Samsung’s “Bordeaux 850″ LCD TVs, which is currently the thinnest on the market, the company said.
They will introduce the tv at a news conference Wednesday afternoon. It is presumed, but not verified, that the tuner is actually in the base mount and not within the display frame.
This is mostly a prestige development since JVC and Sony both already have units in retail stores that are approx. 9 mm. thick.
The 2009 Consumer Electronics Show runs from Thursday January 8 through Sunday the 11th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
