A BOTHELL, WASHINGTON, FIRE LIEUTENANT is fighting for his life today after being crushed beneath a carport roof Friday night.

The Lieut. was partially protected by this amb. cot
with the roof pinning him down.
The Seattle area is covered with a wet, heavy snowfall that is piling up on flat roofs and causing several collapses. The Bothell FD, located about 20 miles north of Seattle, was on a medical emergency at a trailer park last night when the 52-yr.-old FF was bringing in a cot for the ambulance crew. As he was passing through the carport, the roof which had about 8 inches of snow on it suddenly collapsed on him leaving him pinned beneath the rubble.

The roof that collapsed was very similar to this one
which is located close by.
The firefighters on the scene were unable to lift the roof off of the 20-yr. member and had to call for air bags to raise it. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. At first he was listed as having life-threatening injuries, but that evaluation has since been upgraded to “serious.”
The patient was still inside the home at the time it happened and was successfully transported shortly afterwards.
