The Pacific Gas & Electric Co. utility had received reports earlier from neighbors complaining about the smell of gas in their neighborhood. Several utility workers were in the area looking for the leak when the explosion occurred. One of the gas co. inspectors was right in front of the house when it blew and he was also injured, primarily from flying debris.
The NTSB is sending an investigator to the scene to assist because the leak is believed to have been in an underground supply line.
