A PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA, AMBULANCE smashed into the side of a car at an intersection Wednesday night.

The accident happened around 10 pm while the ambulance was on an emergency response with lights and siren activated. None of the medics in the ambulance were injured, but the driver of the car was transported.

Update:
The driver of the auto, Ira Johns, 63, died later at the hospital from his injuries. Pembroke Pines police say that ambulance had its lights and siren on as it headed west on Pines Boulevard. As it approached Northwest 78th Terrace, Johns, who had been headed east on Pines Boulevard, made a U-turn in his white Ford Mustang. He turned in front of the ambulance.
The driver of the ambulance is an 18-yr. employee of Pembroke Pines Fire-Rescue and it was his first accident.
