EARLIER TODAY FIREGEEZER REPORTED HERE on the situation in Independence, Kentucky, where the police and firefighters arriving at a house fire were shot at by the resident.
Later today the coroner released his findings that the man, Seaward Padilla, shot his wife and daughter “multiple times” before later killing himself with the same gun. Police also say that before he killed himself, he shot at the firefighters and four rounds struck the first-in engine. All of them hit in areas where the FF’s were working. One of the bullets struck the deck gun making it inoperable. The FD has two others, though, that they can utilize until it is repaired.
At the time, the firefighters and police officers knew that there was gunfire about, but did not realize just how close they were to being hit.
